Arher Dal with kokum

Cooking Time : 30 Minutes

Ingredients :

Toovar Dal                               
Water                                     
Ghee                                       
Salt                                       
Haldi                                        
Rai/Mustard Seeds              
Curry Leaves                             
Green Chillies                             
Hing                                         
Kokum                                      
Sambhar Powder                        

1 cup
4 - 5 cups
1 Tsp
1 tsp / To Taste
1/4 Tsp
1/2 Tsp
10 - 12
1 chopped
1-2 Pinch
6- 7 Pieces
1Tsp (Optional)

Fresh Coriander leaves for Garnishing

Method :

  • Wash the dal well in running water and add water to it.
  • Pressure cook the dal with water, salt, haldi and Kokum. Put the flame off After two whistles.
  • In another pan prepare Tadka for the dal. Heat ghee in a pan and then add Hing to it.
  • Add Rai and let it flutter. When done add Green chillies and curry leaver.
  • Add Sambhar Powder. (Optional) But it enhances the taste of the Dal.
  • Remove the pan from flame and add to the boiled dal.
  • After adding mix well and bring the Dal to Boil.
  • Garnish with fresh leaves of coriander.
  • Serve Hot with Rice or Chapati.
