Moong Dal Ki Khichdi

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

Rice 1 cup
Moong Dal 1/2 cup
Onion(chopped) 1 nos
Tomato(chopped) 1 nos
Ghee 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds(jeera) 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder(haldi) 1/4 tsp
Cloves 2-3
Cinnamon Stick(dalchini) 1 piece
Cardomoms(badi elaichi) 2 nos
Bay Leaves(tej patta) 2 nos
Asafoetida (heeng) a pinch
Peanuts 1 tbsp
Dry Red Chillies 2-3
Water 4 cups
Salt and Black Pepper Powder to taste

Method:

  • Wash moong dal and rice.Soak them separately for 30 mins. Drain the excess water.
  • In a micro safe bowl add ghee and microwave at 100% power for 30 secs.
  • Add all dry pieces,peanuts and microwave at 100% power for 1 min.
  • Now add chopped onion and tomatoes and microwave at 100% power for 2 mins.
  • Add soaked rice, dal and 4 cups of water. Microwave (covered) at 100% power for 10-11 mins. Stir in between. Microwave at 60% power for 9-10 mins. Allow to stand for 5 mins.
  • Serve hot with Gujarati dahi-ni-kadi or buttermilk(lassi).
